How it works

What MudHog does

MudHog is PMI's mobile automated tank cleaning system. Multi-axial jet nozzles wash the inside of a tank or vessel through the thief hatch, so the tank is cleaned without sending a crew into the confined space. The unit is trailer and forklift portable, runs on 480v, and can clean up to four tanks at the same time. PMI runs MudHog on offshore vessel and rig scopes as well as onshore production tanks, and it is the workhorse system behind the OSV and rig cleaning lines. The same skid works on land. Mounted on a truck, MudHog cleans gunbarrel and production tanks onshore with the same no-entry wash. In an October 2025 pilot in Midland, TX, it cleaned 4 feet of bottom solids out of a 750 barrel gunbarrel tank in 40 minutes of wash time from the thief hatch. A June 2026 job on a 1,000 barrel tank removed 10.5 feet of sediment in 4 hours. No one entered a tank on either job.

Why crews ask for it

What it changes on the job

Equipment earns its place on a job by shortening the window, keeping people out of the hazard, or removing a cost the operator was never going to price accurately. Here is what this unit is for.

  • Cleans without confined space entry.

  • Faster than conventional cleaning, with less downtime.

  • Less time with wells shut in and tanks isolated.

  • Cleans up to four tanks at the same time.

  • Vessel gets worked where it already ties up.

  • Fewer entries, fewer permits, less exposure.

Describe the job and we will tell you whether MudHog fits it.
